George Lindsey Una Film Festival Announces Screenplay Winners

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is pleased to announce the winners of its 2012 Screenplay competition. Gossamer Folds, written by Bridget Flanery-Fownes, is the winner in the Feature Screenplay category. Gossamer Folds tells the story of a young boy whose move to a new city leads him to make a couple of unlikely and forbidden friends. Beth Curry's Vara is the Feature Screenplay finalist. The Short Screenplay, "Wisdom of the Ancients" by Mark Perlick has won its category. "Wisdom of the Ancients" is a story of a teenager and the lessons she learns from an eccentric, wheelchair-bound teacher. "The Dan Dedman Song Factory" by Jeremy Burgess is the Short Screenplay finalist This year the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will feature table readings of the winning screenplays. The readings will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 3, in the Performance Center of the Guillot University Center at the University of North Alabama. The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey's own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show."
